Monitoring Program

Rachel Fern is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Texas A&M University under the direction of Dr. Michael Morrison. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from Texas State University and a Master of Science in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi studying seabird nesting ecology. She went on to work for Florida Atlantic University participating in ongoing research monitoring wading bird colonies in Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades.

With the East Foundation, Rachel is working to improve avian species distribution modeling by incorporating biotic interactions and detection probabilities using monitoring data from the San Antonio Viejo property. Upon completion of her doctorate at Texas A&M, Rachel looks forward to a career in the private consulting or environmental sector.
