Stephen “Tio” Kleberg was educated at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where he received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Business, followed by two years of service in the United States Army as lieutenant.
Upon leaving the military, he returned to King Ranch to begin a career in ranch and wildlife management under the direction of his father and uncle. Tio managed the four ranches in South Texas and upon his father’s death and that of his uncle became vice-president of all Agriculture operations for King Ranch. The operations included farming in Texas, Arizona and Florida, cattle and Quarter horse operations in South Texas, Argentina and Brazil.
Tio retired from management after 35 years of service and was elected to the King Ranch Board of Directors in 1995 where he serves today. Tio and his wife Janell have 3 children, 6 grandchildren and reside at the King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas.
