Ranch Management

I’m Callie Jo Swaim from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. I recently began working on my Masters of Animal Science with a focus on beef cattle nutrition at Texas A&M University under Dr. Tryon Wickersham and East Foundation’s Dr. Jason Sawyer. I’m excited to be living and working at SAV on a cattle grazing and nutrition project in the Coloraditas Grazing Research and Demonstration Area.

I graduated from A&M with a degree in Rangeland Ecology and Management in 2021. I spent the spring after graduation working as a ranch management intern for East Foundation and had an awesome experience. I then worked in the Rolling Plains doing bobwhite and scaled quail research & on my family’s ranch in western New Mexico. As a self-professed plant nerd, I’m excited to observe how factors of grazing ecology & management relate to nutritional outcomes.
