Wildlife Management and Conservation

Joe Hediger is a Wildlife Research Veterinarian at the Patton Center for Deer Research at the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute.  Joe hails from Saint Louis, MO, and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 2016. His research interests encompass population demographics, behavior, and disease. Joe's current research objectives are to determine the role early life conditions impart on life history traits and morphology, the role of tissue mineral levels on chronic wasting disease propagation, and the influence of thermal conditions on behavior, diet, and physiology. He hopes to apply his research broadly by informing the policies and management practices of wildlife managers and state agencies through an understanding of nature's mechanistic drivers. What got Joe into wildlife was a desire to be a voice for the voiceless, making it his mission to protect and perpetuate populations of wild animals and wild places.
