Measuring Adaptive Decision Making in Livestock Grazing Systems

Adaptive management is essential for managing complex grazing systems under uncertainty. Our study develops and validates the Adaptive Management Index (AMI), a standardized tool that quantifies adaptive management at the ranch level. Our findings reveal that while planning, monitoring, and adjustment are moderately practiced among respondents, the evaluation phase is underused. Our study offers a foundational resource for researchers and producers to support learning-driven decisions that build resilience.
