Ranching With the New World Screwworm

“What we have here is a flytrap. This is a flytrap specifically designed to attract the New World screwworm fly – you can see it attracts all kinds of other flies as well. The New World screwworm is the larva of the fly Cochliomyia hominivorax, which means “man-eater.” When an animal has an open or exposed wound, this fly comes by and can lay up to 200-400 eggs in that wound at any one time. As the larvae hatch, they literally devour the animal, starting at that spot, and if left untreated, it leads almost certainly to death…”
