Willacy Co.: East Main Drainage, East Foundation El Sauz Ranch (26.50617°N, 97.5247°W; WGS 84). 24 August 2020. Delanie E. Slifka and Javier O. Huerta. Verified by Randy L. Powell. Texas A&M International University Herpetology Collection (TAMIUHP0001; photo voucher). Individual alligator spotted within drainage early morning, during a light rain event. This sighting is within the estimated distribution of A. mississippiensis (Henke and Eversole 2018, op. cit.). However, to our knowledge there have been no verified reports in the primary scientific literature of A. mississippiensis occurring in Willacy County. This is a new county record not previously reported (Dixon 2013, op. cit.), filling the gap above Hidalgo and Cameron counties.
