Mauricio Rued was born and raised in Mexico City, where he studied veterinary medicine at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, specializing in wildlife animals. He also earned a Master of Science at the same institution, focusing on conservation genetics in ocelots. Over the years, Mauricio has contributed to several projects related to endangered species, including the reintroduction of the scarlet macaw in the Gulf of Mexico region, applied genetics in Mexican small cats, the reintroduction of Barbary macaques in Morocco, and conservation of Amazonian species in Peru. Currently, he is excited to be at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, working with the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute (CKWRI) and collaborating with the East Foundation on his thesis project. His research focuses on the dynamics of disease transmission among mesocarnivores that affect ocelots.
